1930s Germany was considered a cultured and civilized country and, yet, by 1939 it had totally lost its moral compass. You are naive if you believe that America is somehow immune after watching the clown show put on by Trump's minions as they tried to overturn the results of a valid election.

Democracies cannot function without some modicum of trust among its participants. Trump has worked diligently to subvert his followers' trust in facts and democratic institutions — to the extent that many actually called for what would have been a coup. The violent threats against state election officials were far too reminiscent of the Nazi Brown Shirts.

This time, America's judicial system, and the courage of many GOP state election officials, seem to have worked to save us. The failures of Congress, and the moral failure of too many GOP Congressmen and elected officials came frighteningly close to overturning a valid Presidential election for the first time in our history.

The whole scenario was chillingly similar to the way Hitler seized control of the German government in 1933, despite the support of a minority of German voters. Many Germans also believed "It can't happen here!"
