Beware the Coming Storm!

The Republican Knee-Jerk Response to COVID-19 Relief

America is about to see a storm of criticism of the COVID-19 relief bill recently passed by Congress and signed by President Biden. The Republicans and Fox pundits will scream about “socialism”, the demise of capitalism, the destruction of our way of life, and the pending economic disaster to be brought about by deficit spending — none of which can be supported by any provable facts. The recovery from the Great Recession was short-circuited by Republican fear mongering that led to the radical Tea Party taking over the House of Representatives in the 2010 Election. I’d hate to see a repeat of that economic debacle.

Don’t get me wrong. I was a 4th-generation Conservative Republican and I voted for Ronald Reagan twice — but enough is enough. The facts clearly demonstrate that our current economic path has not been working for the vast majority of Americans. Trickle-Down Economics is a failed theory that benefits only those at the very top of the economic heap. It has been used as a justification for creating the greatest income inequality in my 74-year lifetime — and has created enormous economic and social stresses in our country.

False Assumptions

I, and many other Americans, have always assumed that the the Republican Party best understood how to manage our national economy. In retrospect, I cannot imagine why. If we look at the basic economic indicators since WWII, our economy has almost always performed better under Democratic administrations. Maybe we’ve been assuming wrongly?

Fool me once…

I’m done listening to the specious propaganda of a Republican Party in decline —a party that, in its desperation, has fanned a destructive culture war and an attempted insurrection. Long before the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the previous Republican administration indulged in an orgy of deficit spending, solely for the benefit of the ultra wealthy, and fought every attempt to level the economic playing field for all Americans. Why should I listen to any of the “alternative facts” of the Republicans and Fox?

Republicans Tear It Down and Democrats Build It Up

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.
