Dr. Woolley, thanks for an insightful article. I've been leading small and large software development organizations since the late 1970s and I'm still at it. I've always been astounded by the general lack of appreciation for skilled development leadership in American business culture and dismayed by how badly critical business software resources are understood.
Badly commercialized Agile "methodologies" and 1950s management techniques waste enormous amounts of money and business agility. They are crutches for clueless management.
