Liat, thanks for an excellent introduction to the HEAR framework. At this stage of a 50-year career, I've proven to my own satisfaction that HEAR works. In my early 20s, I was an Army officer in Vietnam. I quickly learned that the success of the team was far more important than my own ego. In the real world, teams accomplish far more than individuals can accomplish by themselves. Getting the job done is what counts. Fortunately, getting the job done well frequently comes with its own personal and career rewards.

One the the sad things about business culture today is lack of real leaders. Self-promotion often seems to trump leadership skills and team success. From the perspective of age 77, I am happy that I learned to lead teams rather than become an egotistical bureaucrat with authority. The financial rewards were more that satisfactory and the personal satisfaction was priceless. We got a lot of good things done, and the team I'm working on is still getting it done!
