Looks like you've bought into Putin's world view. The West, lead by the US, has been keeping poor innocent Russia down. Putin's reign of corruption and alliance with his oligarchs has kept Russia down. Putin's desire to restore the spotty glory of the Russian Empire and his overwhelming paranoia are to blame.

The only thing that has so far kept his ambitions in check are the military and economic failures caused by his state-sponsored corruption.
