That is what I mean when I say naive. Back in the 1960s, my generation thought as you do. Why were the older generations so stupid while we knew how to fix things? How did that work out for America? Every generation thinks it’s smarter than those who went before.

People, life, and governing are all complicated. Too bad it takes so long to figure it out. As critical as the problems are, blind impatience won’t fix them. Complex problems do not have simple solutions. Having led troops in combat, having run businesses, and having worked my butt off for political candidates, I have learned that there are no quick and easy solutions. I will continue to work for positive change and be a responsible citizen — but I have lived long enough and studied enough history to know that things change all too slowly.
